There are many different seasonal job openings throughout the year. The change in seasons calls for a change in the needs of employers. Finding the right seasonal job for you can be based on the season, the pay, or your interests. Some of these seasonal job ideas may be close to what you’re looking for based on those things.

Home Improvement

Home improvement retailers such as Home Depot and Lowe’s hire tens of thousands of seasonal employees each year. When working in home improvement stores, you may work as a customer service representative, in operations (which includes stocking, loading, and operating forklifts), or a cashier. Other possible jobs are delivery drivers, facility service associates, and sales specialists in areas such as cabinets or millwork.

There are many companies throughout the United States that specialize in landscaping. Their services include weed work, water features, concrete work, spring cleaning, and more. Seasonal employees hired as landscapers can expect to mow, trim, water, weed, and mulch. You may also choose to work independently as a landscaper and find clients through networking.

National Parks

The U.S. National Park Service hires seasonal workers for a range of jobs. These positions can include maintenance worker, tractor operator, tree worker, park guide, and recreation assistant.

Cruise Ship

Although there are cruises throughout the year, the months of June, July, and August are especially popular. Employers tend to hire more employees at this time because of the increase in cruises. Some cruises are only active in the summertime, such as Alaskan cruises or riverboat cruises. Different seasonal jobs on cruise ships include youth counselors, tour guides, informational speakers, and passenger service.

Amusement Park

Amusement parks hire thousands of seasonal employees to keep up with the demand during the summer months. There is a large variety of open positions at these parks such as cooks, servers, retail clerks, ride operators, lifeguards, admissions associates, and costumed characters.

River Rafting Guide

Being a river rafting guide is a thrilling experience especially if you love the outdoors. Although there is training involved to ensure the safety of the clients, this seasonal job is rewarding. River rafting is most popular during June, July, and early August, so river rafting guides must be committed to working frequently during that time.

Costume Store

Many Halloween and costume stores, such as Halloween City, Spirit Halloween, and Party City, hire seasonal workers during the fall. Positions can start opening up as early as August and last until November. You can find seasonal work at a costume store as a sales associate, cashier, greeter, or stock room associate.

As school starts back up again in the fall, tutors can find more work helping others. Students of all ages hire tutors to help them prepare for exams or do homework. Tutors may also be hired to help people get ready for standardized tests, such as the ACT or the SAT.

Ski Instructor

One seasonal job possibility in the winter is a ski instructor. To do this, you must have training and the ability to teach others. Many ski resorts throughout the U.S. hire ski and snowboard instructors during the winter season.

Many retailers hire thousands of employees during the holiday season because of the increase in consumer demand. Stores such as Target, Walmart, and Best Buy are known for hiring many seasonal employees. You could work as a costumer service representative, in stocking, or as a cashier.

Decorators may be hired during the holiday season to decorate homes, hotel lobbies, stores, and other buildings. You can work as a holiday decorator independently or with an employer.

All in all, it is easy to see that seasonal jobs have lots of variety. Finding the right job can depend on different factors, but is also possible because of the wide range of options year-round.
